Move on from tiresome, overworked “correct” painting and venture outside the lines. The goal will be to produce something that could be, rather than what it is, to capture the viewer’s imagination and interest. Use watercolor’s magic to create fresh, spontaneous passages that suggest instead of laboring over tedious detail. Painting fundamentals will be emphasized while working quickly for best use of watercolor’s unique properties. Students will be guided through developing contrast with composition, wet-into-wet techniques, relative values, color, connecting shapes, and edge quality. There will be plenty of demos, painting technique discussions and examples, as well as gentle critiques and individual help.
