For lovers of pastel, this workshop introduces the basics of plein air painting starting with thumbnail sketches for composition and value (Notan), using a viewfinder, sketching in 5 values, color theory and complementary palette, and changing light sources. Participants will start in the classroom and a new concept will be introduced each day (value, color theory, and light source), with demonstrations and exercises related to each topic. Each day will include painting time, followed by critique and self-evaluation. Nocturne painting will be demonstrated then experienced on Thursday 2/21(9am-2pm then 4-8:30pm), along with capturing changing light, and making up your own light source. Painting will be done in plein air as long as weather permits. Reference photos will be provided for exercises and classwork.
